NITROCROSS | LAS VEGAS

Nitrocross takes over Las Vegas!

To hype up the Nitrocross Las Vegas event, The Berry created a CGI-fueled film showcasing the FC1-X electric rallycross car, taking over the streets of Las Vegas.

This imaginative concept involves the FC1-X mimicking iconic Las Vegas Sphere; showcasing its own unique animated designs on the livery of the car.

Even though the FC1-X rally car is completely CGI, there were live action elements that needed to be captured to act as VFX/CGI plates.

A small production unit from The Berry and a local drone team, travelled to Las Vegas to capture the live action plates. VFX tracking markers were placed where the car would be placed within the scene with a regular car also driven into the scene, to act as a size/shape/lighting reference.

360 HDRI images were also captured so that lighting could be replicated in the CGI environments.

In addition to capturing live action plates, certain scenes were effectively brought to life through the creation of a full CGI Las Vegas environment. This approach allowed The Berry’s CG team to have full creative control over lighting, animation, and camera positioning. The virtual reconstruction of Las Vegas involved modelling, texturing and additional 3D elements such as roads, trees, signage.

To create the animated projection artwork on the car, The Berry VFX team used camera projection techniques within 3D software. Video footage and animations were projected from different camera angles, wrapping to the car's geometry. This process, coupled with custom-painted surface imperfections (like dirt, scratches, car paint, and LED textures) combined together, to produce a photorealistic finish on the car.
